Train 2 Tri

Upcoming Events:
March is the month of the Tri program! We will kick the month off with an Indoor Triathlon and close the month with spin into spring. Don’t miss out, “Tri.”

Sunday, March 4 Indoor Triathlon
Adults and kids it’s time to kick off your tri goal with the Indoor Triathlon. Each segment is 15 minutes. People will be broken up by gender and age. The cycling bikes will be moved to the lobby to add more excitement and running will take place on the treadmills in the wellness center.

For adults it is a 15 minute swim; 15 minute bike ride and 15 minute run. Kids (7 and 17 depending on height) will participate in a 7 minute swim; 7 minute bike ride and 7 minute run. There will be 7 minutes for transitions. Relay teams can also participate, by having a different person doing each activity. It isn’t a set distance like triathlons outside; it really is up to you and how far you go!

Registration is now open on Active.com and on our website. Register by February 15 to participate in a Free Tri Clinic to prepare for the event.

Cost:
Individual: $35 members
Relay: $80 members
Kids Tri: $15 members

It isn’t about speed or duration; it is about stepping out of your comfort zone and accomplishing something huge!

Spin into Spring
Get ready to ride outside with an inside spinning marathon. You pick your duration and distance – 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours of riding it is up to you! Some of our fabulous instructors will be taking the lead role for the ride. Our bikes will be brought up to the Main St. Lobby to add even more excitement to the event.
Cost: $10 per hour
Members and Non-members are invited to sign up now for the ride at the welcome desk or online through the registration portal. For questions email the Tri group.

Other March Events:
Learn about the Train 2 Tri program at an Information Session. Find out how our certified tri coaches will help you reach your goal. We will help you believe that you can finish a triathlon.
When: Friday, March 9 at 9:30 am & Monday, March 12 at 10:15 am

Group Hydro Running Session: Enjoy a group run in the pool! This is a great way to begin building strength as a runner. It is a zero-impact work out with resistance that works different muscles in the off-season or when your training is derailed by injury. Come try it out and then sign up for 1-on-1 sessions.
When: Friday, March 9 at 10:15 am and Monday, March 12 at 7:15 pm

Swimming – Our pool turns into the Lake During the summer our triathlon coaches host open water swim clinics in the lake to prepare people for the natural elements. Since the lake is a little cold right now we will be hosting ‘pool swim clinics’ to begin preparing people for the lake. Swimming in the lake is totally different than swimming in the pool.
When: Monday, March 19 at 6:30 pm or Friday, March 23 at 9:45 am

April is Opening Month of Train 2 Tri Programs! No goal is too far off!

About Train 2 Tri
Train 2 Tri is the program we offer for anyone interested in triathlons. It incorporates the following:

  • Individual Coaching
  • Group Training
  • Team Workouts
  • Private lessons in swimming, underwater camera technique analysis, and water running
  • Youth Triathlon Training

Who can participate?
Anyone can participate in the Train 2 Tri program. Active older adults, mothers, fathers, athletes, ‘non-athletes’, truly anyone can try. Watch for youth specific training opportunities to be announced in April. It is a program that incorporates something for all fitness levels.

Our Coaches
Stephanie Bolster and Ingrid Lagoe are our in-house traithlon coaches. Both are Level 1 certified USA Triathlon coaches. Stephanie and Ingrid started the program in 2010 in response to community need. The program quickly took off and in 2011, more than 85 people trained with Train 2 Tri. In addition, both are cycling instructors as well as seasoned swimmers and swim coaches.

Set a goal, train for it, achieve it!

Individual Coaching
For those who are starting out and for those wanting to refine their technique individual coaching will give you that one-on-one time needed to improve. It is a custom training program meeting weekly throughout the season. You have the option of starting and stopping throughout the season. The training sessions incorporate underwater video analysis, periodic benchmark performance evaluation, and online access to a weekly training plan.

Team Training:
Training with others gives you the opportunity to build relationships with others who have the same goals. It gives you the motivation you need to keep moving, and the best time to learn is with others. Work out and grow together in weekly group trainings on Monday evenings and Friday mid-mornings. Team training will begin April 2 and run through early September.

Training Group:
Set a goal and train for it together. The Musselman Sprint Triathlon in Geneva set for Saturday, July 14 is the goal! In preparation for the Musselman participate with a group in weekly training activities. It will give you the support you need to make it to July. It will begin April 23 and run for 12 weeks. You will receive a training plan and weekly coached workouts for you to complete on your own, as well as scheduled team workouts.
