Our Pool

Our pool is the cornerstone of the Y. It is open 7 days a week for a multitude of lessons and classes. You can also feel free to come in on your own time and enjoy lap swimming or come in with the kids for open swim.

SUP at the Y

It’s so exciting that we are now able to offer Stand Up Paddle boarding at the Y! Beth Cunningham, personal trainer and instructor, will use a variety of body weight exercises that focus on core stabilization. If you don’t build the mid-section you’ll be in the water! It will be a mixture of Pilates, yoga and high intensity exercises so you not only stretch and tone but you work your heart too!

Since we only have 2 boards right now we’re doing “buddy training.” We hope to do more with them in the fall by incorporating it into some of our current water aerobic classes.
Choose Wednesday or Friday:
Friday: 9:15 – 9:45 am & 9:45 – 10:15 am

Cost: $10 per class; only two spots so you MUST register!

HIIT (Level 5)
HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training class, is in the pool too! The class will combine intervals, body weight exercises and bursts of cardio just like HIIT in the gym, but it’s lower impact and you need your swimsuit. You’ll still sweat and you’ll definitely need your water bottle.

Safety First

Swim Band Policy for children 3 – 12
Why swim bands?
As we strive to make our pool safe, we want to assist parents in determining the level of swim readiness of their child.

How does this work?
If your child hasn’t been tested in swim lessons or in another capacity, see a lifeguard to be tested. Once your child has been tested it will be recorded in our computer system. Every time your child plans to swim please stop at the front desk where they will issue you the correct swim band for your child.

What do you have to do for each band level?
Here is a full description of the Band Test that needs to be passed for each level.

Please note: There are NO exceptions. If you do not wish to have your child tested, he/she will NEED to wear an IFD or PFD and have a parent IN THE WATER, within arms’ reach.

Canandaigua YMCA Lightning Policy

The pool will be closed when there are storms with extensive lightning in close proximity to the YMCA. It will remain closed until the storm cell has passed the area, up to 30 minutes after the last lightning was seen. Members are encouraged to wait out the storm, but out of the water and away from the windows. The National Lightning Safety Institute (NLSI) recommends closing both indoor and outdoor bathing facilities during a thunderstorm.

The need to close the pool will be determined by the Aquatic Director, duty officer or lifeguards on duty. The National Weather Service radio or internet issued reports of “watches” (conditions favorable to develop severe weather) or “warnings” (severe weather reported in the area) along with radar images available through the internet ( should be used to make informed decisions on the timing and duration of a closure. The number of seconds between a lightning flash and thunder divided by five will give you the distance, in miles, from your location. The goal is to provide an increased level of safety for the members and staff without undue interruption to program.
